Mike Diamond / Diamondmonsterrr

Location: Sacramento, CA
Title: ABP CEO, Dj, Promoter, Socialite

Meet Mike Diamond. Off stage, he is an up and coming socialite with his hands in a little bit of everything from djing to promotion. Most would describe him as a quiet guy with an inviting enigma that makes him stand out, and just enough vagueness about him to keep you wondering what is coming next. On stage and in the DJ booth, he is known as the energy charged DJ called Diamondmonsterrr.

Mike Diamond got his start like any other aspiring dj playing in the quiet confines of his bedroom. Growing up with the sounds of freestyle, trance, and house music, making the transition to djing came natural to him.

Coming from a place where most consider the indie electro culture to be unseen, Mike Diamond had the heroic vision that most DJ's have starting out. But while most DJ's spend countless hours knocking on club doors and kissing up to promoters to get gigs, he thought outside the control of the club owners.

With a D.I.Y. attitude and an "I don't give a damn" mentality, he took the party straight to the people and created what Sacramento calling gods gift to the indie rock and electro culture. But he just calls it "A Big Party".

The idea was simple. Get a house, throw a big party, DJ as Diamondmonsterrr, have a good time, and go home. He expected success, but what he didn't expect was to see upwards of 500 people show up to one house or the word to spread as far as San Diego.

Overall, 2007 was a breakthrough year for Mike Diamond. With the current success of "ABP" and a few parties under his belt, he is very hard to miss. You can find him with his Blackberry in hand premeditating moves in Midtown, L.A. and San Francisco. But if you ask him, it was only a fraction of the plan he has for the future.

When its all said and done at the end of a long hard day, Mike Diamond doesn't care about the limelight or if people remember if his name is Mike Diamond or Diamondmonsterrr. In fact, he wants to help them forget. Forget their day-to-day stresses of life, their bills, and most of all their 9-5s. With every record he spins, he wants to create a musical hideaway where everyone can dance with no shame. x

As a child Ben was always around music that was cutting edge. With a family of ten siblings there was always music playing somewhere in the house, which planted the seeds for his musical taste. His older sisters preferred the new wave European sound with such music groups as Talk Talk, The Cure, Duran Duran, and Kraftwerk, while his older brothers would be listening to soul and early rap pioneers such as Parliament, T La Rock, Mantronix, and The Dazz Band. EVOLVE

BIO:
e-volve (v)
1. To develop or achieve gradually
2. To work (something) out; devise
3. To develop (a characteristic) by evolutionary processes.
4. To give off; emit.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, and current Sacramento
resident, Jon Marino A.K.A. Evolve discovered the profound, eclectic
sounds of Drum and Bass in the late 90's. Already rooted in music
production and creation ranging from Hip Hop to Grunge and Metal, Jon
adapted to the sounds of Drum and Bass rather easily, as he noticed
immediately that many of the same elements could be found in this genre
of music.

Like many others, Jon's first experience with Drum and Bass came by
referral from a very close friend who offered to show him the
Sacramento underground Drum and Bass scene, and more notably, a
recurrent event and crew known as “916 Junglist.” In his own words,
“The connection (to Drum and Bass) was really truly an awakening, like
a breath of fresh air. I had never heard music so perfectly tuned to my
personality, that mashed up everything that I love (about music) in
such an eye-opening way.” During this period, Jon formed a friendship
with “916 Junglist” forefather, Billy Lane. Billy offered his knowledge
of the business and its workings, and in time, offered Jon a place in
the notorious “916 Junglist” crew.

Shortly thereafter, he landed his first residency at a local night
known as “Naughty Vibes.” Already a reputable name in the Sacramento
Drum and Bass scene, “Naughty Vibes” front man, DJ Rif, noticed value
in his tight, crisp mixes, and overall different approach to presenting
Drum and Bass music to the masses. During this residency, Evolve met
fellow DJs “59 Crime” and “Jason B”, who in October of 2004 formed
“Drop Heavy,” one of Sacramento's most respected Drum and Bass crews.

For the next 3 years, “Drop Heavy” promoted many of the most legendary
events in Sacramento's Drum and Bass history, featuring such DJs and
producers as Klute, Breakage, Rohan, Gremlinz, Outrage, Skitty,
Fracture, Gein, R.A.W., Juju, Echo, Method One, Red Army, Angelzero,
Chris Inperspective, and TZA.

Looking to the future, Evolve continues to push himself forward
musically, adding Dubstep to his repertoire and beginning a production
career along side Kiro, whom many are calling one of the next big
producers in Drum and Bass. Together, they have formed “Corrosive,”
which while still in it's infantile stages, is already causing ripples
in the Sacramento Drum and Bass scene.

DJ ROCKBOTTOM

BIO:

Spinning soul, hip-hop, jazz or whatever catches my ear. DJ ROCK BOTTOM or as I sometimes prefer "Agent Double-0-Soul" has been making a name for myself in the Sacramento music scene since 2004. Not taking anything away from those deejays at the time, I wanted much more from the music scene so with the help of a good friend of mine I took my destiny in my own hands. I have this love for music that can't be explained. I know what I want, so I convey that to the masses.

I first got my start at Mahogany Urban Poetry where there I would hone my craft. In between spinning there and private gigs around town I also would get down with the Twelve's Wax crew (big up), opening for various acts and rocking shows. With all that being said I got the attention from a local hip-hop group (Righteous Movement), I got down with them for a good year and a half doing shows up and down California which was cool. I could go on and on about me which is great, but I'd rather do the rest on the turntables.

YOU CAN SEE ME GET DOWN AT THESE SPOTS:

Illyanna Maisonet

Fine Artist Bio:
The first generation American born daughter of activists, migrant workers, struggling artists and musicians. The recipient of numerous scholarships, grants, art reviews, mural competition awards, and apprenticeships with some of the most renowned muralists in California. Art has always been my way to escape and cope with the harsh realities that this world dramatically throws upon us. In my 26 years of life I still find inspiration out of destruction and pain and I’m still in search of a way to discount the labels and stereotypes that are placed upon me.

I’m a graffiti artist and a muralista. Graffiti is an art form, no matter how bad the conservatives and bourgeois of this country want to ignore that fact. It’s the only art that can speak to youth around the world and the only art they can relate to. It’s the last form of political art and free speech that does not need a sanctuary to protect itself from those who disagree with it’s statement, meaning and point of view. Nor does it need a specific date of the year to exhibit itself amongst it’s viewers. My work is influenced and possesses the aesthetic of graffiti, but it is clearly not graffiti, nor would I want anyone else to categorize it as such. The colours are bright, vibrant, alive and scream to grab your attention. My work is not sugarcoated, just like the attitude that I am burdened with.

I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to interact on a personal level with some of the more renowned muralists and painters of California from an early age, some of whom have had a tremendous impact on their and my communities. Not to mention a colossal impact on the route that I chose to take in life.

Some artists don’t label their artwork under a category, nor do I, but I know that it is my mission to create a socialized artistic expression and wipe out bourgeois individualism. It’s important for me to be involved with my community by organizing, uplifting, educating and terminating gentrification. Helping many to believe art frees the soul and that the youth of America have the desire and need to express themselves in a nonviolent manner. By accomplishing the mission of creating a socialized artistic expression, all of those goals can be achieved.

There are many who believe that involving community members in a long-term art making process can serve to help that community to reclaim the power to define it’s collective identity.
